A Political and Legal Strategy Firm

Our Commitments

We are committed to creativity. Our experience in government and campaigns provides a unique perspective and out-of-the-box thinking about how to approach complex issues like donor identity, coordination, and messaging. We’ll do more than just say “no.” We’ll help you craft the ideal strategy for your particular needs and find the right vehicle for your message.

We are committed to availability. When you need an answer, we are ready to provide it. We will make sure you get an answer and get it when you need it. We use technology to enable better service. From e-signing engagement agreements to a password-protected site where you can access your own documents, you’ll never be in doubt about what needs to happen next.

We are committed to flexibility. We provide flat-fee pricing, job-based pricing, and subscription services. There’s no need for confusing or unpredictable hourly billing. You know how much your plan will cost at the outset so you can budget accordingly.

Campaign Finance

We provide a full array of campaign finance services to ensure you are in full compliance with all the ethics laws that apply to your organization or lobbying activities. We set up new organizations, review the compliance status of existing organizations, and provide representation when complaints are filed. We also review mail programs and other advertising to ensure each communication is compliant with all relevant federal and state law.

Election Law and Redistricting

We handle the full scope of a candidate's legal needs, from qualifying to election contests.

We also are one of the only firms specializing in redistricting in Georgia. Redistricting is not only the most political activity in America. It is also a confusing and sometimes-unpredictable area of the law. You need a lawyer who knows the law and the geographic and political issues inside and out.

Outside General Counsel Services

Nonprofit organizations make our communities better places to live. But tax law, corporate governance, and compliance make running a nonprofit a challenge.

We set up new 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations, review the compliance status of existing organizations, and assist with the ongoing filings required of nonprofits.

About Us

Tyson Strategies LLC is a political and legal strategy firm focused on campaign finance, nonprofits, and redistricting, led by Bryan P. Tyson.

Bryan has extensive experience in civil litigation, appellate litigation, election law, and government.

From 2015-2018, Bryan served as the Executive Director of the Georgia Public Defender Council, a role that has been described as the managing partner of the largest criminal defense firm in the state. He was appointed to that position by Governor Nathan Deal. As Executive Director, he was responsible for overseeing more than 500 attorney employees and 400 staff and investigators in 43 circuit offices across the state and more than 200 contract attorneys. He secured funding increases of more than $11 million, ended litigation against the agency, and professionalized agency operations. He also personally visited every judicial circuit where GPDC operates.

Prior to serving at GPDC, Bryan was in private practice at Strickland Brockington Lewis LLP from 2007 to 2015, where he focused on civil and appellate litigation in state and federal court. With others lawyers in the firm, Bryan advised the Georgia General Assembly during its 2011 redistricting process and was appointed a Special Assistant Attorney General to assist in securing federal approval of all three redistricting plans adopted by the legislature during its special session. He has represented clients before the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Prior to admission to the bar, he worked in the Georgia General Assembly, most recently with the office of the minority leader of the Georgia House of Representatives. Following his work in the Georgia General Assembly, Bryan served as a policy aide to former Third District Congressman Lynn Westmoreland in Washington, D.C.

Bryan is a member of the Georgia and California bars. He serves as a member of the Indigent Defense Committee of the State Bar of Georgia. He was the 2014-2015 chair of the Appellate Practice Section of the State Bar and remains a member of that Section. He also served on the Governor’s Appellate Jurisdiction Review Commission in 2015.

Bryan earned his J.D. magna cum laude from the Oak Brook College of Law. He is a member of the Federalist Society, the Emory University Board of Visitors, and the American Enterprise Institute Leadership Network.

Bryan was awarded the 2017 Indigent Defense Award from the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He was also selected as one of five finalists for the Fulton County Daily Report’s 2015 Attorney of the Year award and was selected for inclusion in the 2011, 2014, and 2015 Georgia Super Lawyers—Rising Stars lists.

Bryan and his wife, Shelley, make their home in the Atlanta area with their four children and are actively involved in their church.
